Richmond’s 60 second challenge

MBA student Rachel is first up to take the Richmond 60 second challenge. Rachel will answer questions about the MBA programme and why she chose to study at Richmond, The American International University in London.

About the programme

New for Fall 2021, this MBA programme really is unique.

It gives you the opportunity to gain an MBA, one of the most prestigious degrees in the world, at an international and specialist University in London. In fact, you will get two degrees, one from the US and one from the UK, creating more opportunities on graduation.  What is more, this programme also provides an entrepreneurial twist, which will set you apart from the competition.

That’s because this MBA, organised in in partnership with Draper University, includes an innovative five-week, ‘Hero Training’ programme.  This fully residential and immersive learning experience has been created for ambitious entrepreneurs who are looking to build on their skill sets, expand their network, get ahead in launching a business, and seeking opportunities to pitch for investment.

The first semester begins with a thorough study of economic analysis for managers, global marketing strategy and explores how to manage both organisations and people.

In the second semester, you will move on to examine the principles of strategic management, financial management and how to conduct business research as well as a course exclusive to this MBA at Richmond, entrepreneurship and innovation management.

The MBA faculty team at Richmond, which includes both academics and experienced industry professionals, is collaborative and supportive. They practice the latest teaching methods which stimulate critical thinking and creativity and encourage you to explore boundaries in your thinking and actions.

In the third semester, you will then live and study for five weeks in Silicon Valley, in California, USA, at Draper University.  This section of the MBA programme is designed to develop your skills in entrepreneurship, innovative thinking, providing a technology and business mind-set in the epicentre of Silicon Valley surrounded by top innovators and entrepreneurship leaders.

With this course at Draper University, you can learn to think like an entrepreneur with modules such as future and innovation, VC training, being a great mentor, corporate entrepreneurship and Silicon Valley immersion.

Every week, you will be completing 40 hours of learning which will enable the progression of your business and the development of your network in Silicon Valley.

Draper University will focus on the business development and innovation aspect of the programme, while Richmond will provide you with all the business and management acumen of an MBA at an international university.  It’s a winning combination.

Please note that non-US citizens will need a US Visitor (B) visa to enter the country for the five-week course at Draper University.

What you will study

The MBA curriculum consists of 36 US / 180 UK credits, including 7 courses at Richmond (26 US/ 130 UK credits) over two semesters.

The final 10 credits in the third semester consist of an Enterprise Project and an Entrepreneur’s Learning Journal, both of which are completed following the intensive five-week training course at Draper University.

After the course, students undertake a presentation of the Enterprise Project to a panel of potential investors, gaining 6 US (30 UK) credits. The Enterprise Project seeks to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in researching, planning and delivering an entrepreneurial business idea.

In addition, students complete a 3,000 word reflective learning journal, Entrepreneur’s Learning Journal course, for 4 US (20 UK) credits. The Journal is aimed at helping students identify the benefits gained from the entrepreneurial learning experience, and to help them determine in which direction their current entrepreneurial skills and business ideas need further development.

Internships are designed to be both demanding and rewarding. The internship will provide an opportunity to better understand the marketplace, using the skills learned on courses in a real-world setting, as students produce an assessed record of their experiences.

A broad education of this kind equips graduates for a wide range of careers internationally, while enabling them to develop specialist expertise in areas of particular interest.

Optional Accredited USA Internship (additional cost)
Students interested in gaining work experience in the USA during their last semester and wishing for help to secure a placement can be linked up to Richmond’s partner GCC (Global Career Center).

This organization will offer students comprehensive career training, find them a placement with a hosting company related to their field of studies in the USA and provide all the necessary support to students with their J1 visa application.

This optional internship will incur an additional cost of $3500 (£2600) which will cover: the J1 visa application, site visit and insurance costs ($1820), GCC’s continuous training as well as finding a placement.

The initial cost to start the coaching and training part of the programme is $1,000 and the rest of the fee is only paid once the internship has been confirmed by the host organisation/company and validated by RAIUL’s International Internship Coordinator.

An official certificate of completion will be awarded to every student having successfully completed the programme.

What our students say

“The Richmond MBA programme challenges students to think critically about pressing business issues. Students gain hands-on experience through site visits, learning about business both inside and outside the classroom.”

Pierre AchhabMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“The professors I had were absolutely wonderful and full of knowledge – one of the things I liked most of all about Richmond. Being actual industry professionals, their approach is very much applied. This was really important to me. As someone who wishes to pursue strategies as a career, the professors helped me understand how varied the knowledge I need actually is. The teaching groups are so small, each student gets full attention; it is possible to learn so much more. I really liked the fact that Richmond has two campuses; one in Kensington and one in Richmond, I felt I had lots of choices, variety and opportunities; I see my future in London because of this. Studying at Richmond University was a great experience.”

Dana GrunwaldMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“My reasons for undertaking a Richmond MBA were to develop skills in corporate finance. The course covered relevant subjects in finance, project management, economics, entrepreneurship and global marketing strategy. The benefit of the Richmond MBA is that it provides a set of tools that can be used for data analysis and decision making. I would recommend the Richmond MBA as a valuable learning experience. It encouraged me to think strategically and apply learning outcomes that have improved my professional capability.”

David LongbottomMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“Moving to London to complete my MBA was a once-in-a-lifetime-experience. The Richmond University MBA program challenges students to think critically about pressing business issues in a fast-paced global market. Students gain hands-on experience through prestigious guest speakers and site visits – and have the opportunity to learn about business through a diverse lens of perspectives – both inside and outside the classroom. It is through the program’s inimitable learning opportunities, extensive team-building exercises, and critical thinking requirements that I am well-equipped for my next corporate position.”

Angela PascarellaMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“I would never regret choosing Richmond’s MBA program. Since day one, I had the chance of working with experienced professors who guided us through the different modules stimulating our critical and creative thinking thanks to a study-case approach. Thanks to the small size of groups, it was easy to interact, taking part in this active learning process where we received many different inputs that helped me develop new skills to better position myself in the job market.

Special mention also to the kind staff of the career canter for supporting us young professionals in our career path creating networking opportunities and providing mentorship.”

Sabrina PieraccioliMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“One of the most valuable lessons that I learned while enrolled in Richmond’s MBA programme, was the importance of learning to work with individuals from different backgrounds. Getting first-hand experience to work with people from all parts of the world opened up my network to include contacts that I would have never gained with the other programmes I applied to. Richmond’s MBA programme also invited guest speakers to tell us of their professional journeys. It was inspirational and informative; and was once again another opportunity to obtain professional connections.”

Sarah Rainey, Los Angeles USAMaster of Business Administration - MBA

“I can honestly say that applying to and attending Richmond was one of the best choices that I have ever made. I accidentally came across the university looking for a school within the United States, but later realised that the experience, the professional network built and the events later in my life could only have started from Richmond.

In the MBA program I learned how to magnify my strengths and truly gain an international perspective in Business. Focusing on marketing, I met professor Nastaran who challenge our MBA program to be clear, consistent and creative; all of which have stuck with me through my career thus far.

After graduation, I joined on full time with the company I did my internship with called Anything But Salads, a raw vegan health and organic company located in Hong Kong, China. I joined this company as a Chief Marketing Officer, where I leveraged my skillset learned from the MBA program. Honestly every module contributed to my success within the company. Ranging from international marketing concepts such as creating a strategy for ‘go-to-markets’, project management working with various teams, corporate finance and organizational management. I had then an option to either stay with the newly acquired firm, explore Hong Kong for more opportunities or start my own venture.

I am currently consulting individuals and SMEs, helping them with positioning on the global marketplace. I highly suggest any prospect students to not miss the opportunity to attend this resourceful university. Live, learn and everything in between.”

Since the start of the pandemic, the Theatre and performing arts industry has taken a heavy toll so starting this year, we aim to host a variety of fund-raising events in which part will be donated to the West End Theatre Support fund.
