Richmond students rate Academic and Student services highly in National Student Survey

Author: Richmond American University London

More than 95% of students say marking and assessment is fair on their programme at Richmond in the 2026 National Student Survey. This is significantly above the UK average of 85%.

In addition, 84.5% of students were satisfied that feedback supported their improvement, confirming the university’s commitment to quality of teaching and assessment.

Overall performance

Richmond student ratings also exceeded UK benchmarks for Assessment and Feedback, Academic Support and Mental and Wellbeing Services, and scores improved in nine out of ten areas year from last year.

In the section for Academic Support, Richmond was rated 90.3%, exceeding the sector benchmark of 89.3%.

The University surpassed the national average in Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, with 86.4% compared to 85.1% across the UK.

Richmond also outperformed UK averages in Assessment and Feedback, achieving 86.3% compared to the national benchmark of 82.9%.

Dr. Allison Cole-Stutz, Vice President for Student Affairs, commented: “I’m excited to see Richmond’s latest National Student Survey outcomes which show high levels of satisfaction related to the support offered both by academic and pastoral student support teams at the University. This is a true reflection of our inclusive community where students are at the centre of everything we do. Thank you to all the students who shared their feedback on their Richmond student experience.”

Year on year improvement

Richmond improved scores in nine out of ten survey categories and maintained its previous score in Freedom of Expression for students in England. The largest increases in scores compared to 2025 survey results, were seen in:

  • Learning Resources (+10.8%)
  • Student Union representation of academic interests (+9.2%)
  • Student voice (+8.5%)

Programme scores

Two courses met the threshold for published results and achieved particularly strong outcomes:

  • BA International Business Management recorded 86.70% satisfaction in Assessment and Feedback, exceeding the UK benchmark of 82.90%.
  • BA Computer Science performed strongly across multiple areas, including Teaching on My Course at 88.20% (above the 88.10% benchmark), Academic Support at 94.70% (vs 89.30%), and Student Voice at 90.70% compared to 80% nationally.

Competitor benchmarks

In comparison with competitor institutions, Richmond performed especially well in Academic Support and achieved competitive scores in Assessment and Feedback and Learning Opportunities, positioning the University strongly within the sector.

These results reflect Richmond’s continued focus on delivering a supportive, student-centred academic environment, characterised by small class sizes, personalised support, effective feedback, and student engagement.
