Programme Overview

Leadership skills are invaluable in teaching and learning. If you’d like to perfect these skills, this MA programme is the one for you.

In the context of the Chinese language in a multilingual and multicultural environment, MA in Language Education Leadership and Management is the only MA available on the market dedicated to the training of future language provision leaders and managers with this two pronged approach which is to provide insight into language learning and teaching a well as leadership and management knowledge and skills.

Based at our Kensington campus in the heart of London, this programme runs on a full-time basis over one year. Its aim is to provide insight into teaching and learning languages as well as providing students with leadership and management skills. It will be of particular interest to those who speak both Chinese and English.

As with all of our programmes, you’ll have the advantage of qualifying with two MA degrees, one from the UK and one from the US.

Our programme kicks off with a look at how to design and develop a teaching course, focusing on ways of assessing students. You’ll then study the principles of learning and teaching a language, before examining financial management, which will be highly valuable for your career options.

In the second semester, you’ll consider the impact of language policies, markets and technologies on society before studying how to manage organisations and people. Choose from Strategic Management or Leadership and Strategic Change as the last module.

Your final semester in the summer will be a practical, research-based thesis with the option of an accredited internship to extend your working experience.

The courses are taught by leading academics, management professionals as well as language practitioners, giving a rich learning and working experience for students. The programme will lay a solid foundation, enabling momentum for you to build a future career.

Those students who focus on teaching English do not need to know Chinese, but if you’re interested in teaching Chinese you must know English which is required for entering the programme at the University.
