About
Stathi Anthopoulos is a person-centred psychotherapist and qualitative researcher who joined Richmond in 2026 to teach Human Science Research. He is a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor-Psychotherapist with over twenty years of clinical experience across NHS, addictions, and private settings, including clinical and managerial roles at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
He is completing a PhD in Psychology at City St George’s, University of London, supervised by Professor Carla Willig and Professor Beatriz Calvo-Merino. His doctoral project examines the psychotherapeutic potential of Argentine tango through a pluralistic qualitative design combining reflexive autoethnography and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, grounded in person-centred theory. He is the recipient of the 2026 PCE World General Student Research Grant.
Alongside his academic work, Stathi runs Life Counsel, a private psychotherapy practice in Brixton, and provides clinical supervision to the Addictions Therapy Team at the Nightingale Hospital. He previously taught on the BA counselling programme at the Metanoia Institute (2009–2015). He works with individuals, couples, and groups.
