Author: Richmond American University London
From 5 – 16 Jan 26, Richmond welcomed 48 students from Haikou University of Economics for the University’s 1st winter school programme. Designed with a strong focus on British culture, daily life, and exploration, the programme combined classroom learning with immersive cultural experiences across London and beyond.
During the 12-day programme, students attended 3 core courses:
- Everyday Life and British Society, exploring city life, transport, leisure activities, and everyday habits in the UK.
- British Films, TV and Modern Culture, introducing influential British screen culture and its global appeal.
- British Manners and Communication, examining how people in the UK communicate, socialise, and express politeness in daily life.
In addition to on-campus teaching, students visited a range of iconic cultural and historical sites, including the British Museum, National Gallery, City of Westminster, St Paul’s Cathedral, Eton College, and the University of Cambridge, providing them with a deeper understanding of British history and heritage.
A highlight of the opening ceremony was a special performance by British-Chinese stand-up comedian Ken Cheng, who delivered a lively and engaging comedy show exploring British and Chinese cultural differences, adding a unique and memorable dimension to the programme.
Wei Peng, Head of Business Development, said:
“The Winter School represents both a successful academic programme and an important step in Richmond’s business development strategy. It was carefully designed as a tailored experience for overseas students, distinct from more traditional short courses offered elsewhere. By combining high-quality teaching with authentic cultural immersion, we were able to deliver a programme that met student expectations while also building a sustainable model for long-term international partnerships.”
The visit builds on Richmond’s growing links with partner institutions across China and continues our long-standing commitment to cross-cultural learning, global mobility, and international collaboration.
