Korean celebration event held to mark new location for London Sejong Institute

Author: Richmond American University London

A lively celebration of Korean language and culture was held recently by the London Sejong Institute to mark the move to the new campus location in Chiswick Park for Richmond American University London. Both traditional and modern musical and dance performances were given, including a K-pop dance performance by the London Sejoing Academy, with a wide array of Korean food served to all who attended.

The guests were welcomed by Richmond President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Phil Deans, who said, “I am very proud that Richmond American University London is working with the King Sejong Institute to welcome people from across London, the UK and the world to learn about, and to learn from, this remarkable country.”

Short speeches followed from the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UK, Yoon Yeocheol, as well as the President of the King Sejong Institute, Professor Lee Haiyoung.

Professor Mary Robert, Head of the London Sejong Institute, said, “Since September this year, with the support of the Korean Culture Academy and in conjunction with the Korean Cultural Centre UK, London Sejong Institute has offered over 70 classes in a range of cultural activities including traditional Korean dance, Korean dress, painting, calligraphy, ceramics, beauty and food. This is a great time to be in London in terms of celebrating K Wave: there’s the very interesting Victoria and Albert Museum exhibition Halyu – The Korean Wave, which is on until late June 2023, and we’ve recently experienced the K-Music Festival and the Korean Film Festival. For anyone interested in our courses and activities please look at our website www.londonsejonginstitute.com and Richmond’s website www.richmond.ac.uk for more details.”
