Guest Lecture Event: Questioning the Warist Orthodoxy

Join our special guest lecture, exploring a pacifist critique of the response to Russia’s war in Ukraine, Tuesday 18th February, 5pm-6pm in Classroom 7.
Please join us in an upcoming public lecture by Dr. Alexandre Christoyannopoulos (Loughborough) who will explore critical pacifist reflections on military responses to international aggression, with particular focus on reactions to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The lecture will discuss the comparative effectiveness of nonviolent versus violent civil resistance methods, the questionable assumptions underlying default military responses, and how war transforms societies through political, economic, and cultural militarization.
Dr. Alexandre Christoyannopoulos is the Head of International Relations, Politics and History at Loughborough University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pacifism and Nonviolence and has research interests including political theory and history of political thought (especially Leo Tolstoy’s), Anarchism (especially Christain/religious), Critical security studies and critical terrorism studies, and religion and politics.
