Empowering changemakers in new MA in Communication for Social Change
Author: Richmond American University London
We are proud to introduce our new MA Communication for Social Change, welcoming first enrolment in September 2026 at our campus in Chiswick, West London.
This innovative programme is designed for anyone who wants to understand how communication, media and messaging can translate into meaningful social change. From climate action and human rights to public health advocacy and global development, communication plays a pivotal role in addressing modern challenges.
By blending theory and practice, the MA opens up pathways to careers in campaigning, public relations, media & journalism, NGOs, government/policy, think-tanks and more. Students will engage with modules such as Media, Digital Diplomacy & International Organisation, Professional Digital Media Skills, and electives including human rights, sustainable development, conflict studies and advertising/PR.
“Our goal at Richmond is to empower students to become thoughtful, globally minded leaders,” says Professor Kelly Coate, our Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic. “With the launch of the MA Communication for Social Change, we are proud to offer a programme that combines academic excellence with real-world purpose. This degree stands out because it gives students the tools to understand complex social issues and the communication skills to address them. It reflects our commitment to education that not only informs, but inspires action.”
Key features of the programme include:
- Dual UK & US degree accreditation – positioning you for global career options.
- A mix of hands-on digital media work, strategic communication and research methods.
- Optional internship opportunities (UK or international) to apply your skills in the real world as well as in the classroom.
- A teaching team with extensive experience in media, public policy and social change, plus guest speakers who are active in the field.
Why now?
In an era of rapid digital disruption, global inequality, climate urgency and shifting public discourse, the ability to craft compelling narratives and drive societal change through communication has never been more critical. This MA puts you at the heart of that opportunity.
