Bryan Cotright, a Richmond BA (Hons) Business Management: International Business graduate, completed an academic internship with WaterUnite as a Business Research & Development Intern to gain credits toward his degree. His hard work and dedication during the placement paid off where after graduating, he was offered a full-time position with the company.
Now, he’s sharing his mentoring advice with you, encouraging you to make the most of internship opportunities and stay open to where they might lead.
“I’m Bryan Cortright, a proud Richmond graduate (’23) with a B.A. in International Business and minors in Sustainability and Environmental Studies. Since graduation, I’ve had the opportunity to work in the international development space, focusing on global water challenges. My experience has ranged across due diligence, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising, and account management. It’s been exciting to see how the public, private, and financial sectors intersect to drive impact.
For those interested in a similar path, I’d recommend exploring emerging sustainability topics like water, carbon accounting, climate finance, and corporate ESG strategy. Sustainability can be nuanced and complex, but in-depth knowledge develops over time. What will take you far right away are strong analytical and communication skills… along with confidence and curiosity”
