Visa & Immigration

In order to study in the UK, you’ll need to meet the various visa and immigration conditions outlined by the Home Office. Our team of specialist and experienced student advisers can help you with guidance on all of these matters. If you have further questions on how to apply for your UK Student Visa, download the gov.uk Guide.

You must ensure that you fully understand and comply with the condition set out in your visa, for example if you are planning to work while you study in the UK. Breaching the visa rules could have serious consequences for your immigration status and could affect your right to study in the UK.

What type of visa will I need?

  • Standard Visitor visa: If you are coming to the UK for less than six months and do not plan to do an internship or voluntary work as part of your studies then you need a Standard Visitor visa
  • Student Route visa: If you are coming to the UK for more than six months, or less than six months but plan to undertake an internship or voluntary work as part of your studies then you will need a Student Route visa

Your e-Visa

All visas in the UK are becoming digital by the 1st January 2025.

What is an e-Visa?
All BRP cards for UK visa holders will expire by the end of 2024! If a visa holder has been granted leave beyond 2024, this will not change, but action must be taken by the visa holder to create a UKVI account to enable their visa to become digital (an e-visa). It does not cost anything to do this.

Find out more about e-Visas on the UK Government website.

All students will need to have completed the e-Visa process by 5pm on Wednesday the 6th of November 2024.

In Summary:

  • Step 1: Create a UKVI Account. Visit: gov.uk/evisa
  • Step 2: Confirm your Identity on the UKVI ID Application app (download from Google play or the Apple Store on a mobile phone device
  • Step 3: Link your UKVI account to your e-Visa

Get access to your e-Visa

Go to the View and Prove website on gov.uk. Visa holders will need to log into their UKVI account and generate a share code and provide this along with their date of birth.

  • e-Visa holders do not need to provide a share code when travelling into the UK as the identity document linked to the e-Visa will show their visa status
  • It is good practice to have a printed copy of your e-Visa or have this open on your mobile device in case of technical issues
  • e-Visa holders will also need to travel with their BRP card until the end of 2024
  • Visa holders will need to ensure that the identity document linked to their e-Visa is up to date approximately three days before travel.
  • Ensure that any personal details or documents are kept up to date in a timely manner
