Richmond is the only university in the UK where the degree programmes are based on the US educational approach which is a four year pathway. Every undergraduate degree student will take our Liberal Arts programme alongside their Major.

The entry requirements for all undergraduate programmes at Richmond are the same, regardless of your chosen Major.

Entry requirements

The University accepts a wide range of international undergraduate degree award qualifications. Occasionally the University may invite candidates to attend an interview.

  • Entry to year two of the four-year programme: Start date September 2025
  • Entry to year one of the four-year programme/Foundation: Start date October 2025
  • Missing up to 24 US transfer credits will enter between year one and two of the programme: Start date September 2025

Entry Requirements
Entry to year two of the four-year programme

Minimum requirements
  • A Levels: BBB / 120 UCAS points
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma: DDM
  • 2-year Associate degree: GPA 3.0 (students may join part way through year three depending on their credit transfers)
  • International Baccalaureate: 32 points with 4 IB points in all Higher Level and Standard Level subjects
  • French Baccalaureat, Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB)/Baccalauréat Français International (BFI): 12.5/20 overall with a minimum of 10 in six subjects
  • Diploma di Esame di Stato with 80% overall with a minimum of 6 in six subjects
Entry to year one of the programme

Minimum requirements
  • A Levels: CCC / 96 UCAS points
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma: MMM
  • US High School Diploma: GPA 2.8
  • International Baccalaureate: 26 points
  • Chinese Senior High School Graduation Certificate (year 11 and 12) with 75% overall and the Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) with 70% overall
  • Indian Standard 12: 60%
Missing up to 24 US transfer credits will enter between year one and two of the programme (students normally take 3.5 years to complete the degree).

  • US High School Diploma: GPA 3.1 plus 2 APs at 4,4
  • Indian Standard 12: 75% overall with 50% in four subjects
  • Chinese Senior High School Graduation Certificate (year 11 and 12) with 75% overall and the Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) with 76% overall

Minimum requirements
  • A Levels: BBC / 112 UCAS points
  • BTEC National Diploma: DMM
  • 2 year Associate degree: GPA 2.8 (students are guaranteed entry to year two and possibly year three, depending on transfer credits)
  • International Baccalaureate: 30 points with 4 IB points in all Higher Level and Standard Level subjects
  • French Baccalaureat, Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB)/Baccalauréat Français International (BFI): 12/20 overall with a minimum of 10 in six subjects
  • Diploma di Esame di Stato with 75% overall with a minimum of 6 in six subjects
Entry to year one of the programme

Minimum requirements

  • Official school transcripts (if you are a transfer applicant with less than 30 credits, you must also submit official secondary school transcripts)
  • English language test scores (required for students whose native language is not English. Please see below regarding this requirement)
  • If you have not been at school or college within the last six months please provide a copy of your Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume

If you are a UK or EU national then you can apply for an undergraduate course through UCAS. Non-EU nationals, including students from the US, can use UCAS if they are also applying to other UK universities.

  • The institutions UCAS code is R20.

Students applying via UCAS will receive their admission decision both directly from the Office of Admissions and also in the UCAS system.

Students from the USA can apply through The Common Application. Non US students can also use The Common Application if they are applying to other US universities.

Many students applying from the United States prefer to use The Common Application. Students wishing to apply to Richmond via The Common Application may need to search for the following institution names:

English language requirements

If your first language is not English, we will require evidence of English language proficiency. Minimum requirements are:

  • Academic IELTS: 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each of the four components (Please note, we are not able to accept the Home Edition)
  • TOEFL iBT: 79 overall with 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 17 in Writing, 20 in Speaking (Please note, we are not able to accept the Home Edition)
  • Pearson Test of English: 60 overall with 55 in each of the four components (Please note, we are not able to accept the Home Edition)
  • Cambridge: 169 overall with 162 in each of the four components
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: English Language
    • A Higher Level grade 5 / Standard Level grade 5
    • B Higher Level grade 5 / Standard Level grade 5

If you don’t meet our standard English requirements we now offer Online Pre-Sessional Course (OPSE) in collaboration with Oxford International.

Deadlines

Richmond runs a rolling admissions procedure for all its degree courses. Once we have received your completed forms and all the necessary accompanying documentation, we will consider your application and provide you with a decision as soon as possible.

If you are waiting for references or final exam results, you may still send your application and may be accepted on a conditional basis. Any remaining documents required by the University must be submitted to the Admissions Office before registration.

Additional information

The admissions process is a multi-step team approach. Typically, applications are reviewed by the Undergraduate Applications Review Committee which consists of the Programme Director and the Head of Admissions. These parties will be responsible for deciding upon all matters pertaining to this area. Read our Admissions Policy.

Applications are reviewed holistically. Applications are not eliminated for admission based on test scores, nationality, gender, ethnicity or other factors. Each criterion is considered to provide a holistic picture of an applicant’s qualifications. This process allows the committee to select those candidates most likely to be successful in our Programmes.

The Council of International Schools (CIS) is the leading organizing body in International Education for the accreditation of schools and in the development of best practice in education standards and development.
