Welcome to our new Provost, Kelly Coate

Richmond American International University London is delighted to welcome Professor Kelly Coate as our new Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic.
Professor Phil Deans, President and Vice Chancellor of the University commented,
“I am delighted to welcome Kelly to Richmond. She is an exceptional individual who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to this crucial role. I know her to be committed to our liberal arts vision and I am sure students and colleagues are looking forward to working with Kelly at a very exciting moment in Richmond’s history.“
Kelly said,
“I’m thrilled to be joining Richmond American University London. My whole career in higher education has been focused on promoting choice for students and I’m delighted to have joined an institution that offers students something different.”
In this role, Kelly will have responsibility for delivering the University’s learning and teaching strategy, research strategy, and for academic performance and reporting.
Kelly commented,
“Having gained a four-year liberal arts degree in the US, I’m a big advocate of the broad US liberal arts curriculum which is studied at Richmond. I really feel passionately that there are so many potential opportunities for students with this approach. It offers them life-transforming skills and experiences, with additional elements such as service learning and internships embedded into the curriculum.”
Kelly was the Pro Vice Chancellor for Education and Students at the University of Sussex for five years, commencing in 2018. Prior to that she was Vice Dean Education in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy at King’s College London. Kelly has also worked at the University of Galway in Ireland and the Institute of Education at UCL.
Kelly lives in Brighton and has two teenagers aged 17 and 19.
