The Foodie Footballer Visits RIASA to Promote Student Athlete Sports Nutrition Education
Author: Richmond American University London
RIASA has recently hosted former Premier League footballer and renowned sports nutrition coach Marc Pugh. Widely known as The Foodie Footballer, Marc delivered a bespoke, activity‑rich nutrition workshop designed specifically for student‑athlete footballers.
Marc is no stranger to the demands of elite sport. Having built a successful career in professional football, he has since become a respected voice in evidence-based nutritional coaching, helping athletes at all levels understand the powerful role food plays in performance, recovery, and longevity. For our RIASA athletes, having access to that depth of experience in the room was an invaluable opportunity.
The session was designed to be practical, accessible, and immediately applicable for daily athlete life. Students engaged in making fresh ginger shots, learning how natural anti‑inflammatory ingredients support recovery and immunity.
Alongside the food preparation components, Marc offered performance‑focused nutritional guidance tailored specifically to the demands of aspiring footballers—highlighting the importance of energy balance, hydration, sleep, and recovery nutrition. RIASA athletes benefited from elevated nutritional knowledge, in addition to multiple practical, easy‑to‑replicate habits they could immediately integrate into their routines.
Marc’s visit provided a meaningful blend of elite football insight, lived experience, and interactive learning, giving students a rare opportunity to learn directly from a professional who has successfully bridged the gap between elite sport and evidence‑based nutritional coaching.
