Professor Kelly Coate, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Richmond, has been awarded Fellowship of the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) at the Society’s Annual Conference held in December 2025. Fellowship of the SRHE is a prestigious honour recognising individuals who have made a substantial and enduring contribution to research into higher education and is part of the Society’s programme to celebrate its 60th anniversary year.
The SRHE Annual Conference is a flagship event that brings together scholars, practitioners and policy makers from across the higher education research community. Alongside 21 other Higher Education scholars, Professor Coate was formally recognised for her sustained research leadership and significant contributions to advancing understanding within the field.
“It was such a privilege to receive this honour with a group of distinguished researchers, a number of whom I’ve collaborated with over the years on HE research projects,” she told us. “I was also given the opportunity to speak on a panel during a plenary session about the role of the SRHE in my career, and I enjoyed reflecting back on my 6 years serving on the SRHE Governing Council, 9 years on the Publications Committee, and co-founding the SRHE’s Digital University Network, as well as winning an SRHE Newer Researchers’ Award (25 years ago!) and a Research Grant Award. I would encourage anyone with an interest in HE research to look out for relevant SRHE Network events and research funding opportunities.”
The Fellowship programme, revived and refreshed as part of SRHE’s anniversary celebrations, underscores the Society’s commitment to honouring excellence and fostering strong networks among researchers worldwide. We congratulate Professor Coate on this amazing achievement!
