President Phil Deans and Provost Kelly Coate attended the annual meeting of the Association of American International Colleges and Universities (AAICU), hosted in Athens by the American College Greece.
Founded in 1971, the AAICU is a consortium of American-style institutions of higher education located outside the United States, committed to promoting liberal arts education. There are currently 27 full and associate members, located in Europe, the Middle East, Central and Southern Asia, Africa and Latin America.
AAICU provides a distinctive forum for sharing best practices in international higher education, facilitates international and intercultural perspectives through student and faculty exchange, and promotes broader awareness of the educational, economic, social, and cultural contributions of member institutions to the regions of the world in which they are located.
In the annual conference, wide ranging discussions covered current issues in US higher education under President Trump, including their implications for funding, student recruitment, teaching, and academic freedom.
At the meeting, Phil Deans was re-elected for a second term as Vice President of AAICU.
