LSI and Richmond explore the fascinating world of Korean ceramics
Author: Richmond American University London
Two events have been held this month by London Sejong Institute/Richmond American University London exploring the realm of Korean and oriental ceramics.
Organised in association with Chiswick Park management company, Enjoy-Work, the events were aimed at guests from companies on Chiswick Park, and included representatives from Pokemon, IMG and Warner Brothers Discovery.
In these engaging sessions, Professor John Dickerson, a distinguished expert in ceramics, helped attendees discover the rich tapestry of decorative techniques used in Korean ceramics, exploring its historical and geographical significance.
The highlight of the event for the guests was getting hands-on experience in creating two beautifully decorated and glazed Korean-style soju/sake cups.
Special thanks to Dr Moun Shin from LSI, The London Sejong Institute, for adding an authentically Korean flavour with a tea-tasting in Korean ceramic cups.
The LSI offers a range of short courses in Korean Language and Culture at Richmond American University London. Stay tuned for details on courses starting in 2024. Don’t miss out on this enriching cultural experience!
One attendee said: “Thanks for organising the event, it was a really interesting insight into Korean culture and traditions and The Snug at Chiswick Park worked well for the event. John was very knowledgeable and gave us an interesting insight into the history and his experiences with Korean pottery. It was really fun to have something to take home to work on too and I got my youngest son to help out and make his own small pot which I hope comes back in one piece!”
