Honours Night 2024 celebrates student success

Author: Richmond American University London

It was celebrations all round at Richmond American University London’s Honours Night which was held recently at the Clayton Hotel in Chiswick.

This event for undergraduates at the University highlights outstanding student achievements both in the classroom and through contributions to the Richmond community. Over 40 different categories of awards were presented, including all the academic award winners.

Dr Allison Cole-Stutz, Vice President for Student Affairs, said, “The students we are recognising have not only excelled academically but have also played a huge role in helping create a positive environment at the University and have shown responsibility, leadership and plenty of determination.”

One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of awards given to students in recognition of service to the University community:

Audra Longley Award
This award was given to Upasana Bhatt in recognition of her contributions to the campus community and her academic success this year. Upasana has served as a Student Ambassador, an SGA member and an actively engaged community member supporting campus life in its many shapes and forms.

Deans Award
This award was given to Rainey Tapia-Hajeski for her contributions to student life, most recently including the evolution of Her Campus, an international organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting women’s issues and for her recent work interning with a sustainable food organisation.

ACS Leadership Award
This award was given to Jessie Garcia, last year’s SGA President for her leadership and engagement in inspiring a positive, student-centred environment at Richmond.

Residence Life Member of the Year
This award was given to Gwen Patterson for her leadership and persistence and prioritising a positive residential community and building belonging among students at the University’s residence hall.

The SGA awards included:

Campus Hero: Aryan Gupta Always in the right place at the right time, Aryan has contributed his time and good will to support others in the community—from new student orientation to leading weekend trips, he has shown leadership and dedication to the student community.

SGA Community Member of the Year: Roshawn Foster
Our very own ray of sunshine, Roshawn brings positivity to everyone he interacts with and creates an environment where everyone feels welcomed and included. He was awarded this year’s SGA Community Member of the Year.

Best Club of the Year Award went to the Bharat Society and Pratik Patel who really has done a lot to enhance student life this year. Bharat Society has the largest roster of active members on campus and a jam-packed calendar of events and gatherings. Led by a dedicated president who is always striving to enhance the club experience, this club exemplifies the essence of community and inclusivity. By focusing on cultural celebrations and activities, this club has provided an invaluable opportunity for students of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in and celebrate Indian culture, lifestyle, and history.

We were also delighted to award Black Student Union as the Best New Club on Campus, Green Project as the Best Club Collaboration, and the president of Korean Culture Society, Dominika Rekawek, as the Best Club Member of the Year.

We were delighted to also host our students in person from the Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy (RIASA), who joined us from their campus in Leeds.

We are hugely proud of our students’ achievements and wish all our award recipients very warm congratulations once again.
