A Session with Craig Crawford on AI, Fashion and the Future of Retail
Author: Richmond American University London
Craig Crawford, a leading figure in digital transformation within the fashion industry, delivered an insightful guest lecture to Richmond students.
Drawing on his experience at Burberry, where he led digital strategy under Christopher Bailey and Angela Ahrendts, Craig explored the evolving impact of technology on fashion and marketing, including the increasing role of AI in reshaping both fields.
During his seven years as Burberry’s VP of IT Strategy, Architecture and Relationships, Craig united C-level leaders to drive the brand’s digital transformation both internally and at retail. Often described as “the right brain of IT,” Craig brings nearly 30 years of creative and technical expertise across global fashion houses including Amiri, Diane von Furstenberg, Hugo Boss, Jaeger, MatchesFashion, MaxMara and Tory Burch. He makes decisions that change the face of Information Technology, driving momentum and growth with improved business connectivity through digital innovation.
Craig also shared the story behind Differently Enabled, the inclusive fashion brand he founded following a near-death experience with COVID-19 in 2020. The brand uses advanced technologies and manufacturing on demand supply chain processes to design garments for people with atypical body morphology, disabilities or those who feel excluded by traditional fashion. His work has captured the attention of the BBC and continues to push the boundaries of innovation and accessibility.
Today Craig consults for leading brands and advising fashion-tech startups across the UK and US. Not only that, but he is also a sought-after speaker who chairs numerous fashion and retail tech events, where he connects global industry leaders and technology innovators. His articles, videos and webcasts are widely published on both sides of the Atlantic.
As former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts notes:
“Craig is the only person in IT who really understands this business.”
As a guest lecturer for various universities (Marangoni, ISDI, Vogue College, UaL to name a few), Craig brings industry relevance to the classroom ensuring tomorrow’s workforce is digitally prepared.
