It was University Mental Health Day on Thursday 9th March 2023 and several initiatives took place at Richmond American University London to encourage staff and students to join together and get talking about student mental health. One of these included an online session entitled, ‘Life after a pandemic: the challenges of student life’, which involved a range of students and professionals in the higher education and mental health sectors.

We are proud to have a nationally-recognised Student Affairs team, having been shortlisted for the Excellence in Supporting Student Success in the highly prestigious Independent Higher Education Awards 2022. Our Student Affairs team prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of our students with a range of support services available to ensure the best possible student experience including:
- Free, confidential counselling services – all students have access to six free sessions a semester with a university counsellor who is available both in-person and online. All Richmond students can also phone Nightline, a confidential listening service, for after-hours mental health support
- We welcome applications from students with any personal challenges, such as sensory or mobility impairments, specific learning difficulties, etc. We try to make all adjustments possible to ensure all of our students are able to fully participate in the University community
- Our ResLife students who are employed by the University provide active pastoral care to other students who live in our accommodation at iQ Haywood House
- Students can become peer mentors who work closely with our faculty and help to guide first year seminars
- We also like to encourage peer tutoring, this is a free service where students who have excelled in a subject and received a recommendation from a professor are able to tutor other students
- We offer help to students with personal challenges, including money/time worries through such initiatives as free essentials packs with food, stationary, or sexual health supplies
