Meet Isha, a third-year Communications: Media Studies student and Digital Student Ambassador who brings a unique perspective to the world of media and communications.
In this blog post, we had the pleasure of catching up with her to learn about her journey, passions, offering a glimpse into the intersection of media, fashion, and student life at Richmond American University London.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to study Communications Media Studies?
Having access to the internet and social media apps from a young age made me interested in pursuing a degree in “Communications: Media Studies”. I was captivated by watching my favourite youtuber’s create content, my favourite singers perform and my favourite movies. I wondered how fun it would be to be a part of this process. The ways of media and its power to shape audience perceptions has inspired me to contribute positively to the field.
Why did you choose to be an ambassador?
Apart from adding to my work experience, the role is fun! I have the freedom to contribute to the University’s social media platforms by creating content and sharing my ideas.
Are there any specific areas within media and communications that you’re passionate about or interested in pursuing further?
One of the advantages of studying a broad degree such as Communications: Media is that it offers me a variety of options to explore within and discover what suits me best. I am interested in pursuing opportunities in social media/content, Marketing or Public Relations, ideally within a media company or a fashion brand.
Is there a particular piece of media (film, book, podcast, etc.) that has influenced you or your work in any way?
I believe YouTube has been the most influential media form in shaping my perspective and work. Its pervasive presence in my daily routine, whether as a primary focus or background noise, has likely had a subtle yet significant impact on my thoughts and creative process. When I am not actively watching, YouTube videos often serve as ambient sound while I prepare for the day. A Youtuber I like to listen to (as if it were a podcast) goes by the channel name “Thewizardliz”.
Why did you choose London?
It’s a commendable place for Communications: Media and offers a wide range of opportunities.
What clubs and societies are you involved in?
I am a part of The Fashion Club and the Japanese Culture Appreciation Society.
How do you like to stay updated with current trends and developments in the media and communications field?
I like to stay updated on the current trends usually through Instagram. If it’s media developments that would not show up on my usual feed on Instagram, I occasionally look it up on other platforms.
How has your minor in Fashion Marketing influenced your understanding of the media industry, and how do you incorporate your passion for fashion into your academic and personal life?
My minor in fashion marketing has made me want to focus on the media department of fashion brands. I mainly pursue my minor as a hobby (as I sew occasionally and upcycle my clothes). If not work for a media company particularly, in the future I would like to work for a fashion brand and explore that field.
