BA Degree in Economics

"Perhaps the strongest quality the university has is that the teachers are very approachable and accessible. I have a good working relationship with my professors which has enhanced the learning experience and the way I feel about my classes and education in general."
Carlos Francisco Restituyo Vassallo - BA Economics

BA Degree in Economics

The BA (Hons) Economics with Combined Studies covers all economic principles and concepts and ideas together with ensuring a sound quantitative skills base. The degree stands out through offering courses such as Behavioural Economics, Public Economics and Foundations of Economic Ideas. This provides students with a more critical and more pluralist approach to Economics than many mainstream Economics programmes do. Another key aspect is the interdisciplinary nature of the degree. Due to the liberal arts identity of the university, students on the Economics degree are exposed to courses from other social sciences or other academic areas. This improves the students’ ability to think critically and reflect on the material taught and studied.

Testimonials

I got a lot of support from the school to come and study here which is something I consider very important coming from a developing country (Dominican Republic).
Perhaps the strongest quality the university has is that the teachers are very approachable and accessible. I have a good working relationship with my professors which has enhanced the learning experience and the way I feel about my classes and education in general.
I would recommend students with an international background to come to Richmond, and they will have a lot of support from the administration and teachers. The key thing here is to tap into these resources to enrich your university experience in a truly unique way.

“The quality of teaching at Richmond was exceptional. I acquired practical tools that equipped me to further my studies via a post-graduate degree. As a Master’s student at the London School of Economics it has prepared me to engage with my work and has equipped me with the skills to cope with the fast paced environment of the LSE.
The teaching style at Richmond was very interactive. Lecturers were very engaging, approachable and helpful and small classroom sizes made it easy to engage with peers and professors. The course elements gave me the ability to create and start various initiatives due to the unique make-up of the University.
My Richmond experience allowed me to explore my interests and I was able to determine where my passion and strengths lie, which completely changed my perspective and career path.”

I arrived in Richmond in September 1998 and attained a BA (Hons) in Economics in 2001. I then went on to obtain an MSc in Economics and Financial Economics at the University of Nottingham in 2002 and returned home to Slovenia to work in risk management at Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB). I found my studies at Richmond to be an excellent foundation with strong resources and approachable classes. My advice to any potential student of economics is to make use of these advantages. Ask questions, get involved, and make sure you understand. Faculty staff will find the time to explain and to help you on an individual level.
