Richmond University is the only University to award a U.S. and U.K. three year liberal arts degree, based on the U.S. model, in the world. Through these programmes, students get all of the advantages of a liberal arts education in just three years. The ‘Degree in Three’ will provide a comprehensive collection of courses that will provide students with a cross-disciplinary education. Students will have five classes each semester with one extra elective course in either their second or third year. Students will also still be able to undertake an internship or participate in a study abroad programme as part of this programme. All degrees programmes fulfill the same credit hours and overall requirements of a four-year undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree.
Students will have high contact hours with academics and complete their liberal arts degree in only three years. These advantages combined with generous scholarships are a fantastic return on investment for those who strive to assemble a broad foundation of knowledge in multiple disciplines that can be used in a wide spectrum of careers.
Students pursuing the specialisation in Media Studies within the BA degree in Communications will focus on the role that television, cinema and new media holds in shaping current society. The aim of this programme is to prepare students to work within the technologically driven, consumer centric and globally interconnected media industry.
This degree provides an interdisciplinary, multimedia approach to the study of communications through the study of the relationship between communications theory and its practice. I chose the Communications program at Richmond because of the broad variety of subjects covered and the chance to learn from professionals still active in their fields. The number of contact hours and the small class sizes meant I got to know my professors and their teaching styles and they got to know me and my interests, offering a number of networking opportunities. Hearing of their experiences in journalism, film, and the arts was one of the most valuable aspect of the course. The theories covered continue to be applicable in the workplace and class discussions with students from many different backgrounds helped to broaden my horizons and knowledge of the international media. Richmond has given me the tools to be successful in the media industry while teaching me to think outside of the box.
