Supporter of Richmond, Lord Asa Briggs dies

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Asa Briggs, the Lord Briggs of Lewes, one of Britain’s leading historians and a pioneer of adult education.  He was a great friend of Richmond offering invaluable guidance and support to the University in its development over the years.

Lord Briggs joined the Board of Academic Governors of Richmond University in the late 1970’s and became the Chair of the Board in 1980, a post which he held for over 25 years.  We are very proud that he accepted an Honorary Doctorate of Literature in 1998.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
