Richmond students take part in tour exploring Black London History

As part of Richmond’s new Black London History class HST 5445 which examines the history of the African Diaspora in London over the last 400 years, Professor Kersh organised a social history walking tour around Clapham Common. The tour explained how, despite being bitterly divided by the campaign to end the slave trade, slave owners, abolitionists, and African students managed to coexist peacefully, living side-by-side in one of Victorian London’s most exclusive suburbs.
