Professor Zhang spoke at a UNESCO international conference in Changsha, China

Richmond professor George X Zhang was recently invited to attend and speak at an international conference on “Role of Linguistic Diversity in Building a Global Community with Shared Future”, jointly organised by UNESCO, Ministry of Education PR China and a few other Chinese organisations, including Richmond partner university BCLU and the hosting city, Changsha in a central China province Hunan between the 19 and 21 September.

Professor Zhang’s presentation was on the new developments in the policies and practices concerning the protection and revival of Welsh language in the UK. Some 200 delegates attended the conference representing government, relevant agencies, research institutes and universities from all over the world. The conference was part of the UNESCO’s proposal to mark 2019 as the Year of Indigenous Languages.
