Richmond is the only university in the UK that has developed a very successful US- accredited undergraduate programme in International Sports Management. Building on this success, Richmond’s one year master’s programme provides students with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of sports management and football culture in the UK. The programme is located in Leeds in the North of England and aims to develop your understanding of sports management in an international context with a focus on football (soccer). Our Master’s degree in International Sports Management builds on our teaching and research success and provides graduate students with a programme of study that is underpinned by the best sports industry practice, knowledge and partnerships.
There is a non-mandatory co-curricular sports component to Richmond’s MA Internationals Sports Management programme that will contribute the development of your practical skills (football training, playing and coaching). The programme provides students with an opportunity to acquire the practical skills as well as a learning environment in which you are encouraged to think strategically about sports management in the context of business development and management of the competitive game environment. Through lectures, seminars, workshops and independent research you will gain skills to explore creative solutions for the sports industry. In combination with training, playing and coaching sessions, you will explore exercises in team building, leadership, motivation, fitness and athlete management. Our aim is to help our students develop a higher level of understanding of sports management in an international context and demonstrate how sports has become a global phenomenon within the wider service sector.

The U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics predicts that job growth in the field of sports management will grow faster than average up to 2024. Research carried out by Sports England demonstrates the gross value added (GVA) sports to the British economy is £20 Billion that sport-related jobs were approximately 2.3% of all employment in England in 2013 There are excellent opportunities for graduates to work internationally, as the sports business is a truly global industry.
Our one-year master’s programme in International Sports Management can help you develop your career. The Master of Arts Degree in International Sports Management is a career development programme for postgraduate students. The main emphasis of this programme is on leadership through strategic management. While the academic level is that of Masters level, there is a strong practical and professional orientation to the curriculum. It will provide you with a high quality educational experience of sports management, and thus improve the quality of professional sports management here and overseas.
The MA ISM will equip you with an understanding of sports management organisations, their cultures, and the changing global environment in which they operate. You will build on your existing understanding of sports management within a framework that enables you to relate your business experience to contemporary management ideas and practice.

The programme is ideally suited to candidates who have recently completed their undergraduate studies, acting as a solid foundation in strategic international sports management enabling quick momentum in building a career. Candidates are encouraged to participate in the accredited internship. The opportunity created will provide an excellent backdrop for real-time application of the thematic work covered in the classroom.
The structure of the MA is organised as follows – there are three core courses in the fall semester, as listed below, and two core course in the spring semester with one elective, as specified. Students who wish to opt out of the internship choose a more extensive dissertation.

The Master of Arts Degree in International Sports Management is designed to prepare students for a range of careers in a variety of fields in the field of Sport Management, as well as for doctoral level graduate work. It is expected that graduating students will work within a variety of sectors of the sports industry including competitive team and athlete management.

The programme is located in Leeds at the Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy (RIASA). RAISA is part of Richmond University and is located on the campus of Leeds Beckett. Leeds is located in the heart of soccer in the UK: the major cities soccer cities of Manchester (40 miles), Liverpool (60 Miles) and Sheffield (30 miles) are all within close proximity. Leeds lies on a high-speed rail route half way between London (200 miles) and Edinburgh (200 miles).
RIASA is a fully inclusive university with top class amenities for studying, living, training and playing, which RIASA students will have full access to all on campus facilities as part of their football and wellness development. The training site has three full sized grass fields and one full sized 4G soccer specific turf field with several turf five-a-side soccer training fields. The training facilities are top class with classroom space on-site and involving no traveling between the soccer site and academic site.
Students who require a visa to study in the UK should apply by 1st July. UK or EU nationals should apply by 1st August.
US Bachelors degree from an accredited institution, or UK first degree with minimum second class honours, or an overseas equivalent as determined by the University. Relevant work experience is welcomed and may on occasion be accepted in lieu of a first degree, but is not required.
