New chapter of Her Campus launches today at Richmond
Exciting news! A new chapter site for Richmond will be launched today (Tuesday 23 March) on Her Campus which will provide female students at Richmond with the opportunity to publish their own news articles on a broad range of subjects, reaching an international audience.
Her Campus is a global online magazine for college women created by college women – written entirely by college journalists from more than 380 chapters around the world.
The launch of Her Campus at Richmond is an initiative which has involved a huge amount of team work, led by Olivia Fox, who is majoring in International Business with a minor in Economics, together with Eliza Sims, also majoring in International Business and both students are in their third year at Richmond.
Olivia, who will be Campus Correspondent overseeing the relationship between Her Campus and the University, said, “ I discovered Her Campus while I was studying abroad at Pace University in New York – while not an official member, I still joined my friends on their article writing adventures such as our mission to find, ‘The best dessert in NYC’.
I thought this club would be the perfect addition to Richmond University especially during these isolating times in lockdown. Not only does joining Her Campus allow you to meet other amazing women at our University, it also allows you to boost your resume and do hands on work to develop your skills in areas that you are interested in. We currently have a team of writers, editors, marketing and event planners as well as a team of those passionate about social media. No matter your interests or skills set I can guarantee that our Her Campus chapter here at Richmond will be a community you enjoy being a part of!”
Bella Hoffman, Social Media Director, said, “I joined Her Campus because it’s an amazing club for empowering women. As the social media director, I really enjoy interacting with others on social media! Her Campus is great for your resume because it shows that you have team work and can express yourself!”
There are approximately 13 students who are active members of the Richmond Her Campus chapter but the team would welcome as many women as possible to get involved. The requirements of Her Campus are to publish at least one article every weekday, five articles per week during each semester. The sections within Her Campus are very broad:
Culture; Money + Career; Wellness; Lifestyle; Decor; Sex + Relationships; Style; Beauty; Her 20s(the post grad section)
The topics for articles planned by the Her Campus team range from Harry and Meghan’s Oprah Interview to CV writing tips and tricks; travel hacks from Tik Tok to five books every college woman should read.
Sabrina Fielden, Senior Editor, said, “I think a Her Campus chapter is an amazing opportunity to build a diverse and supportive community of women on our campus. Being editor specifically means a lot to me because I’ve always loved journalism, and now not only am I getting hands on experience with it, but I get to help lead this wonderful group. Anyone interested in writing (on any topic) and meeting some great gals should definitely get in touch!”
Anyone wanting to get involved could also join one of the other teams such as social media, marketing, events planning or editing.
