MA students given opportunity to explore their wildest dreams with launch of unique programme at Richmond

Fans of science fiction and fantasy will be able to take their passion for film to a whole new level, opening a world of infinite possibilities, with the launch of a brand new MA programme at Richmond unmatched by any other UK university.

Our new MA Film: Science Fiction & Fantasy programme, on offer from January 2021, is the first of its kind, the only MA in the UK that combines film and other visual media with science fiction and fantasy, and enables students to graduate with both a UK and US postgraduate degree, opening up doors to global industry opportunities.

Led by Dr Caleb Turner, Assistant Professor of Film Studies at Richmond, the one-year programme will provide students with all the practical and theoretical know-how to create outstanding films and screen productions in a professional context.   Supported by expert academic and technical staff, including internationally renowned science fiction and fantasy writers, students will also gain an inside track on the film industry through master classes and guest lectures throughout the year.

As one of the world’s top cultural and film production capitals, London has some of the best film studios globally.  Students will be able to explore everything London can offer with an internship, providing great practical experience invaluable for any career.  They will also have the option of doing a research project or a practical project to develop their professional portfolio and film network.   It’s a highly versatile programme, providing students with all the professional skillsets for a career in science fiction and fantasy.

In another first for Richmond, the programme will be offered (subject to availability) from January 2021 in the format of intensive London workshops on Saturdays in vibrant Kensington, complemented by virtual sessions and tutorials throughout the week, ideal for creative and industry professionals or anyone wishing to have a concentrated weekend learning experience.

From September 2021, this MA programme will also be on offer through weekday workshops and tutorials for any postgraduate students who wish to have the full university experience across a traditional academic year.
