Foreign Policy Analysis publishes new work on US Pacific military bases and empire by Richmond International History prof Dom Alessio
Foreign Policy Analysis publishes new research by Richmond International History professor Dom Alessio on empire and US bases in the Pacific. Entitled “‘The Island of Thieves’: Rethinking Empire and the United States in the South Pacific” (Oxford University Press), the work examines how the US acquired these bases through purchase and lease arrangements and the discusses implications of this for studying empire as a whole. The work was co-written with his long-term collaborator Professor Wesley Renfro at St John Fisher College, NY; the two of them are currently preparing a book-length project on their research.
