Dr Ali Aboutorabi


Dr Aboutorabi has extensive experience in UK higher education system, spanning over 35 years, from teaching to research and cutting-edge management. He is an expert in statistical analysis of engineering structures including nano-composites, and industrial quality management systems. He is a fellow of Institute of Manufacturing of UK.

He followed his BSc degree from Sharif University in Iran with a MSc at Manchester University in the UK, and earned his PhD from Glasgow University in 1985 where he worked as a Research Assistant on statistical failure analysis of North Sea offshore structures. From 1985 to 1989 He worked on his Post Doc research degree at Brunel University in London leading a multi-disciplinary project on welding & failure prevention of PE gas pipeline systems.

Dr Aboutorbi is also experienced in leadership and management in Higher Education through his various roles as course director, deputy dean of faculty, director of postgraduate studies and external examiner at other British Universities. He has designed and delivered many international leadership short courses in the UK and internationally, some in association with Oxford University.

  • Honorary Fellow at Kingston University London.
  • Design and delivery of a short course entitled “Knowledge Based companies: opportunities and risks” during 25th international conference in Engineering, Ian (May 2017)
  • Honorary Dean at Nazeer Hussain University in Karachi, Pakistan, to design and validate academic structure and quality assurance procedures (2013 – 2015)
  • Design, management and delivery of residential short courses in “Leadership in Higher Education” in association with Oxford University and Leadership Foundation (2008 – 2010)
  • Development of 2+1 PhD programmes for academics from Azad University Iran, in association with 6 British Universities
  • Design, development and delivery of an MSc course in Engineering Management for practicing engineers from Kuwait supported by Engineering Society of Kuwait
  • External examiner for Greenwich University & MSA University in Cairo, Egypt, from 2005 to 2010.
