Dr Jonathan A.J. Wilson appeared on BBC World and BBC News Online television, whilst taking part in the London Halal Food Festival, which received 15,000 visitors over two days. Dr Wilson shared his views and suggestions for market opportunities in the Halal food sector – which has been valued globally in a report produced by ThomsonReuters and DinarStandard. They calculate annual Muslim consumer spending on food and lifestyle at $1.8 trillion USD in 2014 and this is projected to reach $2.6 trillion USD in 2020. These figures Dr Wilson pointed out do not even incorporate non-Muslim consumption of Halal, where for example many airlines and restaurants serve halal food across the board.
