Climate change and its impact on US military explored by Richmond professor
An article has just been published online in two French media by Bruce Stanley, Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Richmond.
Entitled US Military Destabilised by Climate Change in the Middle East, Professor Stanley’s article which appears in Mediapart and OrientXXi, focuses on how intense heat waves hamper the American troops deployed in particular in the Gulf countries. Earlier this month, six countries in the region topped 50°C in one weekend, making it the harshest June heat wave in the Gulf region in history.
The consequences for US military are huge, weakening the health of the military personnel and affecting the equipment which is proving to be unsuitable for intense sandstorms and violent storms. Professor Stanley’s article explores how the US military is caught off guard in the face of this unprecedented threat.
