Alumni of Richmond has book shortlisted by Reese Witherspoon’s book club

A former student of Richmond, The American International University in London, Chanel Cleeton has had her latest novel, Next Year in Havana, recommended by Reese Witherspoon as her July read of the month.

Reese Witherspoon says of the book on Instagram:
I can never resist a good romance, so I’m excited for the July @reesesbookclubxhellosunshine book pick: #NextYearInHavana by @chanelcleeton! It’s a beautiful novel that’s full of forbidden passions, family secrets and a lot of courage and sacrifice. It follows two different generations of women in Cuba: Elisa, who was forced to flee from there during the revolution, and her granddaughter Marisol, who has returned.  In the end, it’s all about love. I can’t wait for y’all to read this one!

Through her online community, Reese’s Book Club x Hello Sunshine, millions follow Reese Witherspoon’s book recommendations every month.

Originally from Florida, Chanel Cleeton grew up on stories of her family’s exodus from Cuba following the events of the Cuban Revolution.

Her passion for politics and history continued during her years spent studying in the UK where she earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Richmond.

Chanel went on to gain a master’s degree in Global Politics from the London School of Economics & Political Science. Chanel also received her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She loves to travel and has lived in the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.
