Configuring your Computer for Richmond Wireless
Please check that you have the following:
-
Wireless enabled computer (can be a laptop or desktop system)
-
Up-to-date antivirus software and a firewall installed
-
Completed the On-line Wireless Registration form
If so, you are now ready to configure your computer for Richmond's RESNET wireless network.

There are two wireless networks operating simultaneously on campus: ruairnet or richcollwire.
-
ruairnet is a WPA network that is the more secure and slightly simpler to use of the two
-
richcollwire is a WEP network that works with older systems that may not be able to work with ruairnet.
Below are links to instructions for each network. (Note that any system running Windows Vista should be able to use ruairnet.)
| For Windows XP: | ruairnet (requires Service Pack 2) | richcollwire (earlier versions) |
| For Windows Vista: | ruairnet | |
| For Mac OS: | ruairnet (requires MacOS 10.4) | richcollwire (earlier versions) |
If you are having any problems configuring your computer, please visit a Wireless Helpdesk.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
-
You will need to wait up to one working day for processing the Registration form.
-
Most computers will automatically recognize and connect to one of the university's wireless networks: ruairnet or richcollwire. However, being 'connected' to a network and having access to the network are NOT one and the same. To gain access to one of the wireless networks you must register and then complete the above procedures.
