Whit Carter elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society

On February 7th, Whit Carter was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, one of the learned societies of London. The Society, founded in 1820, is one of the most prestigious societies for astronomers, astrophysicists, and geophysicists, however it seeks to educate all who are interested and willing to learn. Most of the fellows are professional scientists or students working on post-graduate degrees. The Society's standards are those adopted by most scientists in this field and acts as a repository for peer learning and review. Whit, who is also a member of the Society for Popular Astronomy, aims to go into those fields of study after graduating from Richmond.

On Wednesday March 26th, Whit and Dave Walker, another member of the SPA, will host a guest seminar for any students interested in the basics of astronomy from 15:00 to 16:00 in the Library Lecture Hall 1. This will be to introduce the main points of the science and demonstrate what the average person can do at home as well as touch o some of the more in-depth and interesting areas of study.

For more information about the seminar, email Whit or Dr. Dwyer.
