UN Internships In Rome Provide Unique Opportunities for Richmond Students

Mr. Robert Leppard, Director of Internships, with Radka Spanihelova
RU '05 and Valeriya Vitkova RU '07 (Student Intern) during his visit
to Rome in Spring 2006.
With the help of Radka Spanihelova (Business major, class of 2005), an internship position with the UN’s World Food Programme in Rome, Italy is available to Richmond students, preferably studying Finance, Economics or International Relations. The placements are 6 months long and start in January and July. For more details, stop by the Internship Office or email Dr. Francesca Kazan for an appointment.

Ms. Radka Spanihelova RU '05
At the start of 2005, Radka Spanihelova (Business major, class of 2005) moved to Rome to take up a six-month internship placement at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). She so excelled in the role that the WFP offered her a permanent position, and she enjoyed life in Italy so much that she accepted! Now Radka is a Financial Donation Analyst and helps to recruit other Richmond students to succeed her as an intern.

Ms. Valeriya Vitkova (Student Intern) RU '07
Valeriya Vitkova started her 6 month internship in January 2006. She writes, "A child dies every five seconds from hunger related causes. Working for the United Nations' World Food Programme has provided me with the opportunity to observe how the public and private sector can co-operate in order to eradicate global hunger and poverty. The working experience in WFP has also enriched my knowledge of development economics, particularly, how food aid could be used for development purposes." Valeriya is studying Economics at Richmond.

Laurie Tudisco
Laurie Tudisco (International Relations major, Senior) joined Radka in Italy from August to December 2005, after which she returned to her studies in the Spring semester. Laurie said she was extremely excited about the opportunity to "contribute to the WFP mission of breaking the poverty cycle with food aid, observe the inner workings of the UN, and to apply the education obtained at Richmond in International Relations and Economics."
