The Green Project Marches Against Climate Change in London

On Saturday, 6 December, members of Richmond's Green Project participated with nearly 10,000 others in the annual Climate March through London. The march aims to promote awareness about the effects of climate change on the planet. The other aim was to put pressure on Parliament to enact legislation that would hopefully regulate carbon emissions in the o-zone. Some of the most pressing issues were opposition to Heathrow Airport expansion, a stop to the construction of new coal-fired power plants, a limit on agro-fuels, and support for massive investment in renewable energy sources.

Speakers present at the March included Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Susan Kramer, the Richmond Park MP, and Caroline Lucas, the leader of the Green Party. The March also demonstrated a sense of solidarity among UK citizens. Participants represented in the March ranged from environmental activists to religious organizations across London, men and women, young and old, left wing and right wing, radical and mainstream. Climate change is an issue that affects people of all types, and the Green Project will work aggressively in the future to support any measures that will ensure the health of our planet.
