Swedish High School Student’s Dual Purpose Trip To Richmond
02/12/2009

Swedish high school student, Sanna Ericsson, visited Richmond University last Friday with a dual purpose in mind. In the afternoon, she attended the university’s Open Day. In the morning, however, she met with Foundations Program faculty and students, whose assistance she was seeking with the preparation of her high school project.
Sanna is in her final year at Nykopings Enskilda High School in Sweden. For her project work in her English course, she is writing a study guide for international students who are studying abroad. As part of her research for her project, Sanna interviewed Mrs. Julia Jeannet, the Foundations Program Co-ordinator, then met the Friday morning classes of both Mrs. Jeannet and Mr. Stephen Thomas. With their agreement, she was able to call students out of class for an interview. All the students had previously filled in a questionnaire for Sanna and had been asked to state on the questionnaire whether they would be prepared to talk to her individually.
Once the interviews were over, a Foundations Program student, Aboubacar Diawara, accompanied Sanna to lunch. Sanna declared herself very pleased with the results of her research; for their part, the Foundations Program students expressed the wish that they might see Sanna again – as a student at the university! – in the near future.
