Richmond’s Second Annual Pedagogies Conference on Friday 25 February 2011

In memory of our much missed colleague, Julia Jeannet 1948-2010, whose work reflected her lifelong commitment to innovative pedagogical practices. We dedicate this conference to her.

Last year the First Pedagogies Conference at Richmond was a successful event that celebrated, above all, the numerous and diverse pedagogical approaches used by Richmond faculty. It raised important questions about the types of students we teach, the various methods used to engage them and the use of technology in the classroom. It was an important day that highlighted how much we value teaching - and the ability to share our ideas reflected our small but vibrant community full of energy and ideas.

This year we decided to have fewer speakers and more time for discussion. The importance of sharing pedagogies has become an important concern in British Higher Education with numerous journals encouraging articles and research grants becoming available. Therefore this year speakers who have already published or are in the process of publishing in the area of HE pedagogies will present at the Conference: Dr. Nick Wilkinson will share his experiences of textbook production as he has published two highly regarded textbooks in Behavioral Economics and Managerial Economics. Dr. Anna Feigenbaum will discuss cutting edge ideas related to course design and their application to two of her courses at Richmond, and Dr. Christine Zaher will present key research on plagiarism management.
