Richmond's Amnesty International Group Attends London Conference

03/10/2007

On Saturday 29 September, five students from Richmond's Amnesty International group went to the Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch for the London Regional Conference, an annual conference of Amnesty supporters from all over London and the Southeast. The day's speakers and workshops focused on the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign and human rights reforms in China. The speakers included Shao Jiang, an exiled student leader involved in organising the Tiananmen Square democracy protests in 1989. He was imprisoned in China in the late 1980s and early 1990s due to his involvement with the pro-democracy and human rights movement.
