Richmond to Offer Language Training Through Local Language School

Mark S. Kopenski of Richmond with Frank Hallam,
Director of the Richmond Language Training Center

Richmond The American International University in London has announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Richmond Language Training.

Richmond Language Training Ltd is a private language school offering courses in English as a Foreign Language to overseas students who need to improve their level of English.

The school is situated on one of the main shopping streets in Richmond, near the cinema, shops and river Thames and 10 minutes walk from Richmond station, offering direct access to central London in as little as 20 minutes.

The partnership agreement between the 2 educational establishments will enable students to develop their full potential and maximise their time in the UK.

Students enrolling on 3 or 4 year Bachelors Courses at the American University require a certain level of English in order to allow them to access the curriculum and participate fully in academic life. Those whose level of English is below this minimum requirement are recommended to join an English course at RLT before starting their degree programme.

These students enrol on a course for one or two terms, depending on their level of English. They join a programme of either 15 or 25 lessons per week, in small multinational classes of maximum 8 students. The focus is on communication, using all the skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing, with special emphasis on the study skills required in a university environment, such as note-taking, making presentations and essay writing. Their progress is assessed regularly and self-study recommendations are made. They have regular tutorials with the School Director or Director of Studies. At the end of their course, their final level of English is tested and most students, with diligence and application, make sufficient progress in order to be able to join their university course.

Students continue to live in their university accommodation for the full duration of their course and are able to join in student life at both the university and the language school.
