Richmond MA 10 year anniversary celebrations and colloquium

Richmond celebrated the 10th anniversary of its MA in Art History program with a series of events on 15th, 16th and 17th May 2008. Sixteen of our MA alumni travelled to London, many from the USA, to join our current students, faculty and friends of Richmond for the celebrations.

The highlight of the celebrations was a wonderful Reception at the Arts Club, Mayfair, on Friday evening. The Drawing Room buzzed with over 70 guests including current students, alumni, past and present faculty, Trustees, Governors and friends of the University. During the evening, Jos Hackforth-Jones awarded one of Richmond’s former Arts faculty members, Dr Edna Clark, the title Emeritus Professor to recognise her years of service to Richmond. A fantastic evening was enjoyed by all of our guests, who have responded very positively to the event.

Dr Robert Wallis and Professor Jos Hackforth-Jones hosted a colloquium on Saturday entitled Where we are now: A colloquium on professional development in the arts. Current MA students, alumni, and past and present faculty gathered for paper presentations, round table discussions, informal discussion and a keynote address by Dr Alastair Wright, former Richmond faculty now with the University of Oxford: Haunted Modernism/Haunted Pacific, or, Gauguin and the Logic of Reproduction. The day provided an important opportunity to explore and strengthen the powerful international network of expertise available to Richmond alumni and current students.

Other events included a tour of London Galleries, in which Richmond alumna and Gallery Manager Margaree Cotton gave a fascinating tour of the Angaza Afrika: African Art Now exhibition at the October Gallery, and alumna and Auction Administrator Amy Brosch organised a visit to MacDougall Arts Ltd.

Richmond is indebted to a private donor, whose generous gift to the university made these events possible.
