Mahelet Alemayehu Mekonnen

Richmond undergraduate degrees have been known to enhance the post-Richmond experience of students and none more so than the very recent example of Mahelet Mekonnen who graduated with a degree in Economics in May 2011.

Dr Dabir-Alai, Professor of Economics at Richmond, says, "Mahelet took the economics program's core values to heart at an early stage, combining rigorous training with practical work. As an active member of the University’s ‘The Green Project’, she developed a keen interest in development economics notably the links between migration patterns, climate change and famine, subjects that would later lead to her published article in the International Journal of Green Economics.”

Dr Dabir-Alai went on to note how, "A strong feature of Richmond's programs in business and economics encourages students to reach out beyond the classroom experience. Mahelet was one of several May graduates who participated in international conferences, completed voluntary work overseas and acted as student ambassadors and peer leaders. This is a tradition the University actively encourages amongst its’ student body.”
