Richmond Faculty Member and Senior Student to Conduct Research in Japan

Part-time faculty member, Jessica Langer, will be travelling to Japan for two and a half months this summer as a successful candidate chosen to participate in the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) program.

Pre- and postdoctoral researchers from the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Canada are eligible for the program. The chosen researchers are given the opportunity to learn more in regard to Japanese language and culture while completing joint research at a Japanese university or research institute alongside their Japanese host researchers.

Langer will be travelling with Richmond senior, Kazu Horiuchi, who will act as research assistant. Horiuchi’s main duties will be to translate and survey literature. The focus of Langer’s research will be on pre- and post-war Japanese science fiction.
