Richmond Co-Sponsors New Zealand and Pacific Conference in Paris
June 29-July 1 Richmond, in association with the University of Paris Dauphine, co-sponsored this year's New Zealand Studies Association (NZSA) conference entitled "New Zealand, France and the Pacific". Over 90 delegates attended some 60 sessions at the University of Paris Dauphine. Topics ranged from examining the controversy surrounding nuclear testing in French territories to an examination, by Richmond's own Jessica Lange, of "The Lord of the Rings" which was filmed in the country.
The conference was opened by New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters and Richmond's Provost Dr. Jos Hackforth-Jones. Dr. Dom Alessio, Head of History at Richmond, Vice Chair of the NZSA, and co-organisor of the event (alongside Dr. Ian Conrich, Chair of the NZSA), was particularly pleased with the conference: "This was the biggest NZSA conference yet. The turnout was international and some of New Zealand most eminent writers, artists, and academics made an appearance."
