Richmond at the Vanguard of Political Debate

As the current debate over the payment and perks of British Members of Parliament continues unabated, Richmond University has not been left behind. This Sunday Dr. James D. Boys was invited to discuss the situation and possible solutions with Andrew Pierce, Assistant editor of the Daily Telegraph, the newspaper responsible for unveiling the MP's expenses these past weeks.

Appearing on Pierce's radio show on LBC 97.3, Dr. Boys discussed the evolving situation and a number of possible solutions including the introduction of Recall Elections to the UK. Dr. Boys was quick to dismiss apparently simple solutions to deep seated problems, telling the audience, "Recall elections are not a panacea, they do not return power to the general public...We risk a tide of celebrity politicians emerging in the wake of these allegations, which could make the next parliament appear to be little more than a Britain's Got Political Talent show, which surely nobody wants."
