On 5th November Professor Alex Seago chaired a panel at the Austrian Association of American Studies conference in Salzburg entitled,‘Towards a Global‘Mash Up’?: The Status of ‘Anglo-America’ in Contemporary Pop'.

An international panel of experts on the contemporary electronic musical landscape included Richmond alumnus and International Relations graduate, Slobodan Brkic, who now works for the World Bank in Belgrade and, as DJ Brka, also has an international reputation as one of the leading DJs in the Balkans.

Slobodan’s presentation on the Serbian music scene, ‘Detroit to Belgrade – Ghetto to Ghetto’, received great acclaim from conference participants. Professor Seago’s paper, 'The Dub Aesthetic : Template for a 21st Century Musical Landscape’, examined the legacy of Jamaican musical innovation on contemporary global electronic musical practice.
