New students and faculty at the
Welcome Dinner, September 2011
One of the main events of Fall orientation week is the Welcome Dinner for all new students which was held at Richmond Hill campus yesterday evening, Thursday September 1st, 2011. Presiding over the event was the new President, Professor John Annette, along with Provost, Professor Phil Deans, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Michael Hoffman, and other VIP guests, senior staff and faculty.

President John Annette speaking at the
Welcome Dinner
In his welcome address, the President emphasized the unique qualities of the University and in particular, the wealth of diversity and international character of its students. Academic excellence and student commitment were also key issues as was the students’ overall enjoyment of Richmond and the student life experience.
Unfortunately, the Chancellor, Sir Cyril Taylor, was unable to attend the event. The President was, however, able to read a summary of the Chancellor's speech, noting in particular the focus on student potential to become world leaders.
Students and guests then enjoyed a dinner prepared by our expert chefs followed by a students’ walking tour of Richmond town centre and riverside as part of their familiarization with the area.
