Nahki Wells, Bermudian Youth Star
Nahki Wells, international player with the Bermudian National team, will be joining the IASA academy in August. Nahki has developed into one of the most complete players and brightest prospects to come from Bermuda in many a decade. Bermuda has produced former professional players such as Clyde Best, former West Ham star, and Shaun Goater, a Manchester City legend. Nahki hopes to follow in their footsteps as he pursues his undergraduate education and soccer career at the IASA academy in Leeds. Wells, an ex-Ipswich Town trialist, has long-harbored a move to England and hopes the West Yorkshire-based IASA will provide him with a springboard into the professional ranks.
According to Bermudan sources, Wells plays with maturity beyond his years. Wells made his senior national team debut during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and earlier this year netted for Bermuda's Under 20s in a hard fought 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago's Olympic team at the National Sports Centre. More recently, he netted four goals during Hornets' 5-3 league conquest of Southampton Rangers to keep his team in the championship hunt.
Wells has stated that his focus is on becoming a professional player. Like all young boys growing up, Nahki has always dreamed about making a career out of the sport he loves. Nahki stated, ”I have been working extremely hard at improving my game as a whole; heading, finishing, passing and defending. This focus has made me become a more mature player on the pitch. I am focused and preparing myself so when the door opens and I am offered something, I will be one hundred per cent ready”.
“(IASA) is a mixture of high academics and football. It is a big opportunity for me and I can't wait to start," said the Dandy Town man. "The way the system is set up is to offer players plenty of exposure to a professional club and I am sure it will enable me to develop as a player".
The Bermuda Football Association (BFA) recommended Wells to the IASA, in association with Richmond, The American International University.
