MA students visit East End galleries

Saturday 15 September saw the MA Art History students visit East End galleries in what has become a regular fixture. The tour was organised by Deborah Schultz, who teaches Theories and Methods on the MA course.
First stop was Victoria Miro gallery where the group met Rachel Helfand, an MA graduate and a curator at the gallery for the past 18 months. She spoke about the current exhibition and about how she found her place in the London art scene.
Next stop was White Cube, one of the best-known galleries in London, before moving on to Flowers East. While the first three stops on the visit were well-established galleries in large warehouse-type settings, the group then moved on to Vyner Street, off Cambridge Heath Road, where some of the newest spaces are opening. The small road is home to a surprisingly large number of galleries, including Fred, where the group met Scott Scheier who completed his MA at Richmond this summer. Scott began an internship at Fred after last year’s visit and spoke to the group about his own experiences of the London art scene.
Lunchtime beckoned and the group made its way to the nearby organic food market for well-deserved refreshments.
